Filled With The Spirit?

Baptism Filling

Occurs only once in each believer’s life

Is a repeated experience

Never happened before day of Pentecost

Occurred in the Old Testament

True of all believers

Not necessarily experienced by all

Cannot be undone

Can be lost

Results in POSTITION

Results in POWER

Occurs when we believe in Christ

Occurs throughout the Christian life

No prerequisite (except faith in Christ)

Depends on yieldedness

WHAT IS THE FILLING OF THE SPIRIT?

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 5:18

· It is a command

· It is control

· It is conditional

To be controlled by the Spirit is to be filled with the Spirit.

HOW CAN ONE BE FILLED WITH THE SPIRIT?

Don’t Quench (Sins of omission)

Do not quench the Spirit. 1 Thes. 5:19 (NKJV)

Don’t Grieve (Sins of commission)

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Ephes. 4:30 (NKJV)

Walk in the Spirit

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 (NKJV)

WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE OF A SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE?

1. CHRISTLIKENESS

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

2. A LIFE OF SERVICE

On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. [38] He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." [39] But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. John 7:37-39 (NKJV)

3. PRAISE, WORSHIP THANKSGIVING AND SUBMISSIVENSS

speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, [20] giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, [21] submitting to one another in the fear of God. Ephes. 5:19-21 (NKJV)
